ICOM - The International Council of Museums
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is the international non-governmental organization of museums and professional museum workers established to advance the interests of museology and other disciplines concerned with museum management and operations.
Since its foundation, icam has been affiliated with ICOM (International Council of Museums), which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement and advancement of museums and the museum profession. Founded in 1946, ICOM provides a worldwide communications network for museum people of all disciplines and specialities. It counts some 10,000 members in 135 countries. It is associated with UNESCO as a category "A" Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and has been granted advisory status by theUnited Nations Economic and Social Council. Its Paris-based Secretariat and Museum Information Centre assure the day-to-day running of the Organization and the co-ordination of its activities and programmes.
